Summer was out of Gr Ch Bearstar Chilean
Willow ROM (foundation bitch of Starridge) x Sw Fn Ch Djungelkattens
Imbue Ridged Isak CV (or at least his semen that I had imported). She
was somewhat of a surprise given I was expecting a stud fee and instead
lo and behold a puppy instead. Did I ever get the better end of that
deal as SumSum proved to be priceless :-) Summer proved to be a superlative brood
bitch with twelve conformation champions to her credit including a Grand Champion
and additionally a Field Champion (lure coursing).
She was
originally known as "the feral" due to her predilection for eating the
strangest things and regurgitating them at the weirdest times. This was
one ultra smart girl who was a real night
owl. She loved the swimming pool and would go and play in the shallow end
in the middle of the night in the middle of winter! She had to play alone
since she couldn't convince anyone else that splashing up water and then chasing
the droplets was fun. She also learnt to open the fridge and
cupboard doors - she personally wasn't a food thief but rather an
enabler for the others ;-)
At the age of 9 Summer was diagnosed with soft
tissue carcinoma and was given 12-18 months to live but it seems nobody
told Summer and after radical radiation (and the horrific resulting
radiation burns) she recovered to live another healthy happy 6 or so
years. Summer died suddenly when it seemed she would go on forever - a
devastating loss but what a wonderful legacy of love and laughter she
left behind!
